My name is Chloe Spingler and I am junior at the Out-of-Door Academy in Sarasota, Florida. For my first semester this year, I completed an independent research study exploring best practices for development in rural Haiti.
Over the course of reading academic essays, interviewing stakeholders in Haiti and exploring Haiti’s complex history, I began to better understand the challenges Haitian NGOs face in order to be successful. The culmination of my research was a framework for giving. This framework provides a simple way to analyze the validity of an organization based on four detailed screens: 1) community focus, 2) infrastructure building, 3) capacity building, and 4) transparency of results.
With a multitude of NGO’s to choose from, I proceeded to screen organizations until I found the one that met all four requirements. Ultimately, Haiti Partners stood out. Through their emphasis on innovation such as a handmade paper enterprise, community gardens, updated school facilities, and a nurturing educational environment, they did not just meet the requirements, they far surpassed them.
This is why I have chosen to donate $1000 from my business, Charmed by Chlo (charmedbychlo.com), to Haiti Partners. It's also why I've chosen to put on this benefit luncheon, Education in Bloom, where our goal is to raise $10,000 for students in Haiti.
Please join me on April 19th to learn more about how I found my place at this organization and how you can too. If you can't make it, I encourage you to click above to visit the registration/donate page to make a contribution and make a difference in children’s lives.
