The Foundation course of Classical Yoga and the Study in Mindfulness offers the student an opportunity to become acquainted with the practices of classical Hatha Raja Yoga alongside Soto Zen practices of mindfulness. The students will begin their self study by examining their relationship with the Yamas and Niyamas and from there progress through the eight limbs of the Ashtanga Yoga system. Students will learn how to practice and teach basic asana, pranayama, and meditation techniques. They will learn how to study and apply the wisdom of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as well as the Bhagavad Gita, along with other honored and revered texts. Students will be "met where they are" and offered assistance in creating and maintaining a Yogic lifestyle. Finally students will be encouraged to create a balance in their own lives between the different schools of yoga, ranging from Hatha, Raja, Karma, Jhana, and Bhakti Yoga. The goal of Self Realization and effortless Love and Service to all beings is the greatest gift to one and all. Upon completion of this course students will be able to continue their self study and the pursuit of yoga by being of service, teaching asana, to maintain the body, pranayama, to maintain the mind and meditation to touch the soul and open the heart. We honor all of our teachers, especially Sri Dharma Mittra and Jeff Seymour.
