Crafting Calm is part of our Building Resilience series for adults. This monthly program, led by local crafting legends Marianne Snow and Mary Taggart, is based on the premise that making things with your hands has a similar effect on your brain to meditation.

Paper Wreath. Welcome spring with a wreath made from old books, magazines, scrapbooking paper, buttons, and bows. Deadline for signup is April 18.

Marianne Snow, MEd has worked with children and adults of all ages in many settings – day care, school classrooms, children’s librarian, storyteller, yoga, reiki and meditation teacher. In each of these settings she has integrated art, mindfulness and guided meditation as part of her programs. Most recently, she ran an Extended Day Program for K-5 where crafting was offered every day. She believes the creative process is important in allowing people of all ages to express themselves as well as relax and have fun. She and Mary had a successful business called Joyful Hands where art experiences, as well as guided relaxation, was offered to both children and adults.

Mary Taggart is an artist and teacher originally from Wakefield now living in Rowley. She is a graduate of the Mass College of Art and the owner of TaggArt Studio, est 2009, in Wakefield where she offers art and instruction to children and adults. Prior to opening the studio, Mary was the owner of The Painted Effect, creating murals and faux finishes for many homes and businesses The studio is a culmination of her journey, warm and welcoming, a wonderful alternative for artists of all ages to relax and create. She also teaches in the Ipswich area, both at the Ipswich Museum and enrichment in Ipswich public schools. She has shown her work in many shows including a recent solo show at the Pat Marshall Link Gallery in Rowley and a group show at Concord Visual Arts.
