Family Defensive Driving Week July 16-20 (AM & PM Sessions available each day)
The M1 Concourse Family Defensive Driving program is specifically designed to improve overall skill behind the wheel, instill confidence and increase awareness in parents and their teen drivers*. The day begins with a classroom discussion about the basics of defensive driving and the dangers of distracted driving. Then the day continues with several real-world exercises in vehicles and interactive discussions. Become a better driver with your child**.
Skid Car: The skid car exercise will teach participants what to do in the event of skid or slide resulting from a loss of control. Using the skills taught by the instructor, participants will learn exactly how to recognize the skid and properly react using their eyes, hands and feet to regain control of the vehicle safely.
Vehicle Dynamics Course: Utilizing the south loop of the test track, participants will push LaFontaine Fleet vehicles to the limit in a safe and controlled environment. The course will consist of a slalom, multiple emergency lane change scenarios and a full ABS braking drill. With individual coaching from the instructor, drivers will be encouraged to gradually increase their speed and effort while learning about the capabilities of the vehicle.
Distracted Driving: During the driving drills, M1 instructors will create distracted driving situations that will take the drivers focus off what they are doing behind the wheel to demonstrate the dangers of not being 100% focused on driving the car always.
Vehicle Walkaround: An instructor will discuss the importance of regular vehicle maintenance as well as how to check items such as tire pressure, brake pads, and select proper seating position.
*Participants must have valid driver’s permit/license*
*Those under 18 years of age will need parent/guardian signature for the liability waiver*
**Parents are not required to join but are highly encouraged to participate. Cost is only for one participant.**
