Sam Dalby RP: "I like to work from life wherever possible, building comprehension of the sitter through preliminary sketches. This will, I hope, lead to the creation of well reasoned and durable images. Drawn and painted portraits have an interpretive aspect and an engagement with the subject matter that other methods can struggle to replicate. This is why this type of portraiture has continuing relevance and appeal, regardless of the whims of fashion."
Andrew James RP: "I primarily use brushes and knives to apply oils on canvas. I usually paint isolated objects: a tree, a paperclip, a face. This heightens the sense of our connection and isolation with the world around us."
Anastasia Pollard studied at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Florence Academy of Art. Her work has been included in the annual exhibitions of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and was previously included in the BP Portrait Award in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012 & 2017. Pollard won The William Emlen Cresson Scholarship, Silvia & Miron M Walley Memorial Scholarship and was successful in the Linda Lee Alter Awards.
