The City of Mandan Community Beautification Committee and Mandan Progress Organization are seeking volunteers to pick up litter on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will be treated to an appreciation lunch featuring drawings for a variety of family-friendly prizes donated by local merchants and organizations.
An initial 9 a.m. gathering at Dykshoorn Park on west Main Street serves as an opportunity to receive instructions, trash bags (provided in part by Scuba One), safety vests (until gone) and gloves if needed. Volunteers are asked to wear long pants and bring protective work or garden type gloves.
Last year, approximately 242 volunteers gathered 486 bags of trash from ditches along major roadways. Organizers hope to meet or exceed this participation level in 2018 to accomplish even more. Businesses, civic organizations and youth groups are invited to take a route.
Registration is helpful for planning purposes. Please sign up at www.cityofmandan.com/register. Updates will be posted to the City of Mandan and “Keep Mandan Beautiful” Facebook pages. The alternative date in case of inclement weather is May 5.
The event is sponsored by Dacotah Speedway, Dakota Community Bank & Trust, Dakota Promotions and Printing, Ashley Kelsch, Larson’s Tattooing, Lewis and Clark Development Group, N.D. Guaranty and Title, Prairie Rose Family Dentists (Dr. Sid Schmidt), and Starion Bank.
Donuts donated by Bearscat Bakehouse will be served at the initial gathering. Food for the noon lunch is donated in part by Cloverdale Foods, Dan’s Supermarket, Pepsi and Frito-Lay with grilling services provided by Dakota Community Bank and Trust.
Door prizes will be awarded to volunteers through drawings at the noon lunch. Meal cards and certificates have been provided by Fried’s Family Restaurant, Mandan Dairy Queen, Nutrition Revolution, Pizza Hut, Pizza Ranch, Station West, and Taylor Made BBQ. Other prize items are being provided by Anytime Fitness, Brea, Butcher Block, Cake Dreams, Dakota Speedway, Fort Abraham Lincoln Foundation, Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, Hirsch Floral, Krystal Nail and Spa, M&H, Mandan Nails, Mandan Rodeo Days, Midway Lanes, Prairie West Golf Course, Raging Rivers Water Park, and Scheels.
