Dr. Sheri Matascik, Maryville College associate professor of music, will present “Blooming Strings,” a faculty recital featuring new music for solo guitar, on Friday, April 20, 2018.

The recital, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the Clayton Center for the Arts’ Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall, is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the performance.

During the recital, Matascik will perform several of her newly composed pieces, which will be included in an upcoming CD. She will also perform several favorites from her first two solo guitar CDs, “At the End of the Day” and “Spirit Wood.” Matascik’s music can be found on iTunes and Amazon.

“When writing new music, I like to air it, getting audience reactions before I record it,” Matascik said.

Matascik, who joined the Maryville College faculty in 1995, has a bachelor’s degree in classical guitar performance and a master’s degree in music theory and composition from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University in Ohio. She holds a doctorate in music theory and composition from Kent State University.

Matascik's interests include music theory and aural skills pedagogy and music composition pedagogy. As a composer, Matascik has written many works for chamber groups, synthesizer and guitar, among other instruments and ensembles.
