February 09th to the 12th April is MSU (dis)Ability Awareness Week: #NoLabelsNoLimits.

This week celebrates all our student members who face challenges on a daily basis, but excel as Maynoothians nonetheless. The campaign's aim is for students to be informed that people all around you are everyday heroes, even if they might sometimes need some extra support.

A particular focus this year will be on what are know as 'Invisible Disabilities'. Conditions such as Anxiety, Crohn's Disease and Arthritis (to name only a few) affect many students around campus but can go unseen. We want to break the silence and stigma surrounding disabilities because at MSU we believe labels are for jars, not for people.

Monday 09th April:

Online launch of the 'Invisible Disability' Awareness campaign.

Tuesday 10th April:

10am-4pm (Arts Block): Interactive 'Labels Are For Jars' Exhibit. Do you know someone with an invisible disability?

11am-1pm (SU Meeting Room 3/4): MU Pro-Choice Society Coffee and Chats.
Representatives from Parents For Choice will speak about having children with disabilities and also about the upcoming referendum.

1pm-2pm (SU Meeting Room 1): Disability Safe Space. A safe space where students with disabilities or family and friends can come and chat about their experiences on campus.

Wednesday 11th April:

10am-4pm (JH Help Desk): Interactive 'Labels Are For Jars' Exhibit. Do you know someone with an invisible disability?

11am-12pm (An Tobar): Bullying and Disability. A video presentation by Padhraic Dormer of Enable Ireland.

12pm-1.15pm (An Tobar): Disability Awareness Training. This is a certified training workshop facilitated by Enable Ireland and is open to all students to attend.

2pm-3pm (An Tobar): Disability Safe Space. A safe space where students with disabilities or family and friends can come and chat about their experiences on campus.

Thursday 12th April:

10am-4pm (Library Foyer): Interactive 'Labels Are For Jars' Exhibit. Do you know someone with an invisible disability?

1pm-2pm (Phoenix Mezzanine): Speak Out. An opportunity for students to address their peers and speak about their disability and their experience in Maynooth University.

2pm-3pm (An Tobar): Disability Safe Space. A safe space where students with disabilities or family and friends can come and chat about their experiences on campus.

6pm-8pm (JH4): MU Pro-Choice Society Event.
The Irish Society for the Deaf will talk about pro-choice issues for an hour and teach us some pro-choice sign language

WE WANT YOU INVOLVED!

We want to share your story! The best way to break silence and shatter stigma is by talking: We're looking for students who would like to share some of their experiences (with diabetes, arthritis, chrohn's for example) either as part of our MSU 'Speak Out' session or as part of a shart piece to camera for a video we will put out during the campaign. Just contact Aoife using the details below.

If you would like to get involved in any capacity or would like further information on this week, please email Aoife Fennell (MSU VP Welfare & Equality) on welfare@nuimsu.com or message her on Facebook

Maynooth is a #NoLabelsNoLimits campus. Let's celebrate that this week.
