“Platters”, an exhibit of current large thrown platters (20” in diameter), shows the infinite diversity of the platter as serving vessel, wall decoration and 3D window into space, color and form. Using multiple techniques of the potters palette, inlay, sgraffito, glaze over pour in combinations creates multi dimensional expression and presents the platter as a window into something more than just a serving vessel.

John Clark has been making functional stoneware pottery for forty years beginning with a four year apprenticeship with Heath Krieger, now of Prescott AZ. After his apprenticeship John lived in Santa Fe NM where he established the Clark Pottery, producing pots and supplying local restaurants with tableware for eleven years. Traditional techniques from the Asian, European, and Colonial potters of America have been the source for John’s approach to understanding and making pots for everyday use, while following the ideals of form set forth by potters; Bernard Leach and Michael Cardew.
