BIG Ideas, &
BIG Collaboration
Let's multiply forces and realize shared goals!

Hello friends,

Thank you all for making the first Big Table event of 2018 such a hit! We've lined up FOUR Big Table events for 2018 on the overarching theme of Resource Equity Through the Lens of Social Determinants. The next one is coming up fast on Thursday, April 12th.

Join us as we focus on housing, with guest speakers who influence different parts of the housing process. We'll bring you the perspectives of a nonprofit developer, a funder, a realtor, and professionals who connect residents with resources in the community. We'll then shift the conversation into small groups and see might be possible from there.

What is the Big Table?
Each Big Table event acts as a variation on the theme. This approach allows us to bring in more voices and identify shared ground in our work. Four meetings allows us to both deepen and broaden the conversation.

We seek to amplify work that is already in progress in Medford by bringing in different guest presenters on each topic. We'll tailor small group break out sessions to different presenters' work, keeping things relevant and fresh.

If you think at first blush that a particular topic doesn't directly apply to your work, you'll still have an opportunity to connect with your peers in community service in a pleasant and low stress setting, sustaining you in what we all know is taxing work. We also hope you'll find, as the conversation unfolds, that the topics do indeed apply to your work.

The second Big Table of 2018 is coming up on Thursday, April 12th. Together with Mayor Burke, we'll gather around the big table - and some smaller tables to incubate productive discussion. We'll convene you and your peers from local community organizations to foster collaboration, promote communication and lay groundwork for coalitions on topics of local importance.

If you would like to be part of the team developing programming for the Big Table events, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Community Building consultant, Rachel Meredith-Warren, Lark Development LLC, at rachel.meredith@gmail.com or 781-832-0195.

Guiding Vision:
Medford is a city where communication and access is easy, all are included, and a culture of collaboration is the status quo. Partnerships and sharing are commonplace. Today’s silos become tomorrow’s networks. All organizations and groups apply their skills, resources and expertise to create an excellent quality of life for all of Medford’s residents.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, we are asking for registration in advance to make sure we have sufficient staff, refreshments and supplies on hand on the day of the event.

Is there a plan for inclement weather?

If Medford Public Schools are closed or delayed, the event will be postponed to a date to be determined.

Where do I park?

There are a limited number of posted visitor parking spots at City Hall. If those are full, you'll find a mix of paid street parking and public parking lots with kiosks to accept payment. These are adjacent to City Hall and within a 5 minute walk. Kiosk instructions can be found here.

Will there be coffee?

Yes. The Big Table's grocery store sponsor, Whole Foods Market, will be serving a mix of pastries/bagels along with coffee, juice and water.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
