Rich Hamilton and Amy Snedaker Hamilton are J. Bird and the Sparrowhawk, are an acoustic duo that play a wide variety of songs and tunes influenced by the southern string band tradition, with lots of harmony singing and fiddle licks.

Rich Hamilton, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, plays fiddle, banjo, and guitar and is best known for bluegrass and old-time mountain music. He has appeared throughout the Northeast and at various spots in the Southern Appalachians, and has shared the stage with Nitty Gritty Dirt band members Jimmy Ibbotson and John McEuen, Trey Anastasio of Phish, and other national touring bluegrass bands. The other half of J. Bird and the Sparrowhawk is Rich’s wife Amy Snedaker Hamilton on fiddle and vocals.

How it works. Signup begins at 6:30 pm and the music begins at 7:00 pm. Performers are encouraged to sign up for an open mike slot. Sign-up is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Typically each open mike slot is 2 songs or 10 minutes, whichever comes first. Performers can reserve a slot up to a week ahead (no earlier) by emailing dave@meetinghousestage.com.

Thinking about performing? Everybody is welcomed and encouraged to share their talents, but like all things in life, there are Rules. Each month we will have a feature performer who will get a longer, 30-minute slot. Check out our Calendar to see who will be featured at our coffeehouse in the coming months.

Equipment: We have a small PA, five microphones, and two instrument cables that provide sound reinforcement.

Dates: Usually held on the second Friday of each month. Consult the Calendar page to make sure that the open mike is being held during any particular month. Occasionally we may need to move the date for a given month, depending on availability of the venue. For example, in October we’ll always be on the third Friday, and in July we are typically outdoors at the Rindge Historical Society on the afternoon of the second Saturday of the month. There is no Meeting House Stage during the month of December.
