Californians entered the 2018 New Year pondering how to make sense of the largest collective firestorm disaster in history. As communities found ways to cope and to heal, contemporary artists immediately responded with visual forms of expression. GASP Lecture Series speaker Rina Faletti, an art historian, exhibition curator and environmental humanities scholar, will speak about the impact of the California wildfires from the point of view of art exhibition design. As a first-hand witness of the fires, and still displaced from her fire-damaged home, Faletti has turned her research to contemporary artists as they create alternative spaces for coping, contemplating and comprehending individual and environmental dimensions of regional firestorm disaster in California.
