6PM: ART EXHIBITION OPENING – IDENTICITY: A VISUAL DIALOGUE ABOUT LIFE IN THE URBAN HABITATAT is a multidisciplinary exhibition by Cambodian and international artists, curated by Miguel Jerónimo. Cambodian and foreign artists reflect on Phnom Penh and how the city shapes the existence of its inhabitants. Aspirations and struggles, needs and wills, the fragmented identities and life-forces to survive and thrive in the city. It includes paintings by Rena Chheang and Miguel Jerónimo’s photographs on urban disparities, Lolli Park’s illustrations and the papercut work by Lauren Iida both dealing with Cambodian life, a conceptual sculpture by Eng Rithchandaneth and a social practice project by Syahrulfikri Salleh’s that uses art to counter urban isolation, field recordings from Bernadette Vincent and a photo-stories of “Humans of Phnom Penh” by the White Building Collective, a group of young Cambodian artists who will also present a video installation paying homage to their former building. On the opening night will also be screened the short-film “Cambodia 2099” by acclaimed French-Cambodian director Davy Chou. This exhibition was possible through the kind support of Heinrich Böll Stiftung.
