ATTENTION:BATTLE CREEK ORIENTATION!!!
This event is at the VA Medical Center, Building 138 in Battle Creek
This mandatory event provides an informational/benefits presentation. It provides an inside look at what is required to be a successful student(Cadet) at the Michigan Youth ChalleNGe Academy. Simultaneously, the orientation provides the applicants with the necessary information to make an informed decision as to whether they should or should not attend the MYCA if an invitation is extended.
Applicants must be between the ages of 16-18 years old on the day that the class starts. Those applicants who are under 18 during the orientation must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
To reserve a seat at this event, PLEASE RSVP ASAP by email to: mycaadmissions@michigan.gov, or you may call 269-968-1294. Please include the applicant's name and phone number so that we may be able to reach said applicant, if needed. Please revisit this posting prior to the event to ensure that no details have been changed.
Please arrive between 1700(5:00pm)-1745(5:45pm), as there is paperwork that you must complete prior to to the event starting.
Prior to coming to the event, please visit our website at www.miycp.org/apply/ and fill out the electronic "Applicant Information" portion on the website. Once you have done that, you may download and complete the "Cadet Application" at the bottom of the page, along with the "Mentor Applications." The "Applicant Statement" needs to be hand written, by the applicant, in their own handwriting. The sooner you have your application and supporting documentation complete, the sooner you have an opportunity to receive an invitation to attend Cycle 39. Please make copies of you required documentation, do not submit original documents.
It is advised that applicants and parents should research the MYCA thoroughly prior to attending this event. Applicants (not parents) will be interviewed individually. The interviewer will expect the applicant to answer questions honestly, regarding their willingness to attend voluntarily and, most importantly, to explain why THEY wish to be selected to receive an invitation.
The application process is very, very competitive. The MYCA serves young people from the entire state of Michigan; therefore demand overwhelmingly exceeds the number of spots available to attend the Academy. Those who procrastinate or do not have a completed application may miss a great opportunity to attend. The MYCA reserves the exclusive rights pertaining to which applicants are extended invitations based on its own criteria.
