Mark Harman will lead this discussion of Franz Kafka's "Letter to Father".
Author Franz Kafka wrote this 47-page letter in 1919, at the age of 36, in an effort to examine his tormented relationship with his father. It is both a biographical and a literary document; it was translated and published after his death.
Mark Harman, Professor of English & German at Elizabethtown College, as well as a literary scholar and prize-winning translator, will lead this discussion. He has written extensively about Irish and German-language authors, with a particular emphasis on Franz Kafka, about whom he has published over 20 articles.
