SKETCH WRITING WITH MIKE BETETTE

In this eight-week course, students will learn how to write sketch for the stage in a variety of styles. Each week, we’ll start by reviewing and workshopping the sketches written at home, review new sketch styles, and discuss specific tools to aid in the writing process. There will be opportunities to write individually, in teams, and as a class. This lesson will conclude with a live revue of sketches generated by the class, performed by outside performers and the writers who feel comfortable.
ABOUT THE TEACHER
Mike Betette is a writer and director for the Emmy-nominated Epic Rap Battles of History. He has also written for the web series "Speakeasy" with Russell Peters and co-created "ThisisMarkTwain@aol.com," for Mandatory.
Mike is half of the sketch duo Superpunk, creators of the animated web series "Time Traveler," for Comedy Central & Superdeluxe.com,
He has performed with Mission IMPROVable at colleges around the country, and on a cruise ship with The Second City around the world. He has taught improv at iO WEST, Nerdist, AMDA and M.i.'s Westside Comedy Theater, where he was also artistic director.
He has creatively consulted for Hasbro, Inc., YouTube and produced improv shows for Ryan Seacrest Productions and CBS. He has been seen on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Playboy TV's "The Stash," and in the independent films "A Strange Brand of Happy and" "Hitting The Nuts: The True Story of the Scott County Series of Poker."
