Morro Bay Art Association is proud to present a demonstration of French Dyes on Silk, using a serti (resist) method, by landscape artist Jeanne Miller.
Painting landscapes of the American West, Jeanne Miller celebrates the drama of weather and patterns created by changing light, using vibrant, intense color. Jeanne uses the Serti (closing or fence) technique which is a method used to outline designs with gutta or water-based resists, applied to white silk that has been pre-washed, dried and stretched. She approaches her subject with French dyes, similar to painting with watercolor, stating, “I find silk painting to be a fun and forgiving medium. It lends itself to any subject matter. The colors are gorgeous, the materials are inexpensive, and the results are wonderful! Once the colors are set, the fabric can be sewn into garments, hung, sculpted into 3D shapes, or mounted onto canvas or panels as wall art.”
Jeanne is a current member of Silk Painters International.
This demonstration will explore the steps of silk painting using a serti (resist) method as a guide. Jeanne will engage participants in a hands on application of French dye on silk. Don’t miss this opportunity to see how it’s done!
