Band of Dawn is hosting an evening of live music in the heritage listed Mowbraytown Hall with a magical line up of singer/ songwriters and musicians from wildly diverse backgrounds who fuse World Sounds and stories with Contemporary Folk, ProgRock, Reggae and sometimes even Hip Hop.
On March 24, we had the soul soothing sounds of Clare Cowley, AKA Planet Clare. On April 28, join Band of Dawn once more as we celebrate the powerful music and enchanting tales that our blues brother Brent Moetara delivers.
Brent Moetara has performed in a wide range of collaborations, bridging multiple genres as a singer, guitarist and blues harpist - yes he croons the smoky blues with his unmistakable voice and harp. In honour of his bloodlines, Brent will also weave in traditional songs and stories that hold a place in his heart. Proud to be a Ngapuhi man, Brent and his beautiful family are from the North Island of New Zealand. Ngapuhi is the largest tribe in New Zealand - you will be captivated by the stories of Brent Moetara's ancestors.
Band Of Dawn is an all-nation collaboration of sisters and brothers… united by music, weaving old world stories and sounds into the present moment. The lyricist and leader of the band is Kimberley ‘Dawn’ Lysons. Dawn is heavily inspired by the many nationalities that make up her very mixed heritage, which includes the bloodlines of India, Nepal, The Middle East, Eastern Europe, Basque Country, Scandinavia, Ireland/Scotland/Wales & Russia/Mongolia... just to name a few! She speaks the many stories of her ancestors that connect to the present day, while weaving in her own life lessons...
