University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) was founded in 1828 as the ‘Institution of Diffusion of Knowledge’, and became a university in 1992. It offers 350 undergraduate and 250 postgraduate programmes, and it is the only university to offer astronomy degrees designed specifically for distance learning students.
