Join us at the MAP for our latest exhibition: Modern Dinosaurs? Exploring Centuries of Discovery!
Open March 9 - June 10, 2018, Modern Dinosaurs? explores how mysterious beasts became familiar icons of past life on our planet as science transformed our understanding of natural history. Encounter full-size dinosaur skeletons, scientific instruments, original letters and works that fueled a scientific revolution. Discover natural selection in the age of the dinosaurs as you consider the evidence indicating birds descended from dinosaurs and as a result, should be considered modern dinosaurs.

MORE ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
--- First Dinosaurs ---
In the 19th century, news of unusual giant bones spread across the globe. The bones were reptilian in many ways but they had unique features—and they were far bigger than any living reptile. Terrifying and mysterious, ancient beasts once ruled the world but then vanished. What did it mean?
--- Voyage of Discovery ---
A five year voyage around the world, from the Antarctic to the tropics, the world’s geology, plants, and animals inspired one young naturalist, Charles Darwin, to propose the most far-reaching theory in the history of science: descent with modification by natural selection.
--- A Theory ---
How was Darwin’s explanation received? How have discoveries over the last 150 years changed our understanding of descent with modification? Use touchscreens to dig deeper into the science of natural selection. Fly through a forest eating as many moths as possible to experience natural selection in the Hungry Birds game.
--- Tree of Life ---
Consider the dinosaurs’ branch on the tree of life as you examine different lines of evidence indicating birds descended with modification from dinosaurs and, as a result, should be considered modern dinosaurs.
