During the Algerian Revolution (1954 – 1962), the French civil and military authorities profoundly reorganised Algeria's urban and rural territory, drastically transformed its built environments and strategically built new settlements in order to keep Algeria under French colonial rule. Based on French military photographs and films, this stunning exhibition by Dr Samia Henni features only one aspect of these territorial transformations: the construction of militarily-controlled camps, dubbed 'centres de re-groupement', in Algeria's rural areas. The exhibition is a partial outcome of Samia Henni's doctoral dissertation, which was defended in September 2016 in Zürich. Please join us for the exhibition opening and book launch at the GSA (MOAD)
