How can art be used to transcend artificial borders and create dialogue among our communities? Inspired by histories of fortifying, transgressing and constructing borders between peoples, nations and ideas, join For Freedoms and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston for a town hall-style event.

For Freedoms is an adaptive national, artist-run initiative to increase civic participation. As the first artist-run super PAC, For Freedoms uses data to map and mobilize the existing cultural infrastructure of art in the United States toward broader civic participation through identification, activation and dispersion.

Ahead of the town hall, a site-specific installation by For Freedoms will be installed on the MFA’s Huntington Avenue lawn (October 27–November 3). The work is part of "The Billboard Campaign" (2016– ), an ongoing series of artist-produced billboard installations in public and art spaces. Co-opting the billboard format—a tool of political advertising—these works invite the viewer to engage critically both with the messages they present and with the medium of political advertising itself.

Town hall discussants include:

• Layla Bermeo, Kristin and Roger Servison Assistant Curator of Paintings in Art of the Americas at the MFA
• Eric Gottesman, co-founder, For Freedoms, artist
• Steve Locke, professor of art and art education, Massachusetts College of Art and Design
• Sunny Pai, administrator, Boston Public Schools

The evening includes an interactive art experience with writer and visual artist Annie Weatherwax.
