We welcome David Kim, Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, returning for his third visit to our series. David has invited some colleagues to join him in The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi. Julia Li and Mei Ching Huang, violin; William Frampton, viola; Hai-Ye Ni, cello; David Fay, bass; and Jeffrey DeVault, harpsichord will perform Vivaldi with Mr. Kim. The Friends will perform the Dvořák String Quintet No 2, Op. 77.
With seven performers, this ensemble will be a feast for the eyes and ears. The harpsichord will add its distinctive voice for the first time in our series' ten-year history. Vivaldi's Baroque style is evidenced in the familiar themes of The Four Seasons. Dvořák's Nationalistic style (Romantic Period) used folk music of his native Bohemia. The noticeable contrast in musical periods will be on display for our enjoyment and appreciation.
