In their 8th year, The Apple Bottom Gang has built a reputation as Columbus' premier old-school country act. Combining elements of western, rockabilly and swing, they have built an impressive catalog of energetic and engaging original music. The Gang also serves up gig helpings of country greats like Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Johnny Horton and Roger Miller. In a recent review, Columbus Alive described them as "Country Music for people who don't like Country Music".
The Gang is fronted by IR Hummel, the son of "Cowboy Bob" Hummel. His band, Rainbow Canyon, scored a radio hit with "Franklin County Woman" in 1977. Growing up immersed in old-school country records - the influence is apparent, yet Hummel's own style and delivery are his own. The band also includes long-time Columbus musicians Josh Tully (Guitar), Matt Newman (Bass Guitar), Jeff Passifiume (Guitars, Mandolin, Lap Steel), Dianne Hummel (Vocals/Percussion) and Rob Mottice (Drums, Washboard, Vocals).
