Please join us in our commemoration of the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) to pay tribute to Filipino-American veterans of World War II on 7 April 2018, Saturday, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
Hosted by the Philippine Consulate General in coordination with the Philippine Celebrations Coordinating Committee of Hawaii and the AFP Liaison Office to the US Pacific Command, this is a non-ticketed event and free to the public.
“Araw ng Kagitingan” or Day of Valor is a memorial ceremony honoring Filipino-American veterans of World War II and is held on the anniversary of the fall of Bataan, which culminated in the surrender of more than 75,000 Filipino and American troops, and the Bataan Death March, which claimed nearly 10,000 Filipino and American lives in April 1942.
The type of ceremony is a memorial service at the Main Memorial Shrine, to be followed by wreath laying ceremony, also at the same venue.
This year's commemoration is made more significant following the signing of the Filipino Veterans Recognition and Education Bill signed in December 2016 by President Obama, and where in 2017, the US Government started bestowing the medals to surviving veterans. A ceremony is being planned in Hawaii for awarding of the medals in early May 2018.
Should you have additional questions/concerns, please feel free to contact us at email@example.com, where you may also send your RSVP by 4 April 2018.
Maraming salamat po!
