The Young Artists of the National Opera Studio and the WNO Orchestra perform scenes and excerpts from some of the world’s best-loved operas, including Mozart’s Il nozze di Figaro, Verdi’s Falstaff, Puccini’s La bohème, Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi, and Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. The programme also champions women composers with extracts from Elena Langer’s Figaro gets a Divorce and Ethyl Smyth’s The Boatswain’s Mate.
This fully-staged performance will be directed by rising British director Emma Jenkins, and performed under the baton of WNO Associate Conductor, Kerem Hasan.
The three annual week-long residencies at our partner companies in Leeds, Cardiff and Glasgow are some of the highlights of the training year and form a vital part of the professional training and exposure that sets our young artist programme apart. Not only do the host companies get to know how our artists fare on their stages, but our artists learn to adapt and apply different skills on platforms large and small, as they will need to do in the professional world. Singers and répétiteurs work with leading directors, conductors, staff and, most importantly, the fantastic orchestras of our partner companies.
