Join us as we explore Norwegian Heritage with a demonstration by master artist Linda Miller.

Rosemåling is the traditional form of decorative folk art that originated in the rural valleys of Norway. It is a style of Norwegian decorative painting on wood that uses stylized flower ornamentation, predominantly primary and secondary colors, scrollwork, lining and geometric elements, often in flowing patterns. Landscape and architectural elements are also common. Many other decorative painting techniques were used such as glazing, spattering, marbleizing, manipulating the paint with the fingers or other objects.

Linda is an award winning artist who began rosemåling when she was encouraged by her mother-in-law, Mabel Synnove Olsen, who was born in Oslo, Norway. Linda acquired Sigmunds Aarseth's book "Norwegian Rosemaling" and began to practice the art. She has studied at the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah, Iowa as well as under both the "Old Masters in Norway as well as American artists.

Linda has taught at many craft schools and local lodges on the east coast. She can also be found at many Nordic fests selling her rosemåling throughout the Northeast.
