We will be having a conversation with author and professor Gil Troy, who will be unpacking the challenges modern Zionism faces while simultaneously expanding on the virtues of Jewish self-determination.
Troy's talk will draw on his newly released book, "The Zionist Ideas: Visions for the Jewish Homeland—Then, Now, Tomorrow" (JPS, 2018), an update of Arthur Hertzberg’s classic "The Zionist Idea." Troy's book is the most comprehensive Zionist anthology ever published and features 170+ passionate visionaries, including women, Mizrahim and other formerly overlooked thinkers. On a global level, Troy shows how Zionism, while often maligned, is keeping the faith in liberal nationalism alive – resisting both right-wing white nationalism and left-wing postmodernism during a time of increasing polarization.
