Don’t be left behind!

The national My Health Record is undergoing significant change and by late 2018 all Australians will have a My Health Record unless they actively choose not to by “opting out”. The NT currently leads in use of its own NT electronic health record and we need to ensure this expertise is translated to use of the National My Health Record. The Australian Digital health Agency and NT PHN are therefore partnering over the next nine months to assist all healthcare providers to better use the My Health record and provide training and awareness on the Opt-Out option and patient communications.

The rollout of education about the My Health Record and the Expansion Program is through a collaboration across all sectors of health including NT PHN, AMSANT, Northern Territory Government, Top End Health Service, Central Australian Health Services, Pharmacy Guild and Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA).

Together this collaboration is embarking on a 2 phased approach

Strengthening general understanding and use of the My Health Record by all primary care providers
Education and training around the expansion through the Opt Out program
Phase 1 Training (April 2018):

As part of the first phase NT PHN will be delivering training and education to further embed the value and use of the My Health Record across all areas of primary care in the NT but particularly in mainstream GP, pharmacy and allied health.

In partnership with the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) NT PHN will deliver training sessions and offer practice support visits to healthcare providers to raise awareness, update on the roll out and provide demonstrations of uploading and viewing Shared Health Summaries for the primary health care team.

Presented by Sharon Martin from ADHA, multiple training sessions will be delivered in Darwin, Alice and Tennant Creek to provide health professionals the opportunity to attend a session at a time suitable to them and their practice.
Dr Peter Del Fante, GP Clinical Liaison from ADHA and a locally based NT Primary Care Champion will also attend to answer any questions and to support understanding of the functionalities of the My Health Record.

Sessions are targeted to GPs, non GP Specialists, Practice Nurses, Practice Managers/Receptionists, Pharmacists, and Allied Health Providers to develop their understanding of the link of their service and to contribute to better health outcomes for their patients.

Phase 1 Sessions will deliver the following Learning Outcomes in an interactive learning environment:

Identify the objectives of the National Digital Health Strategy and the implementation of the My Health Record
Recognise the relationship between the NT Electronic Health Record and the National My Health Record
Understand the role of health care providers in the My Health Record Expansion
View demonstrations of uploading a Shared Health Summary for providers in a variety of Clinical Information Systems (CIS)
Participate in demonstrations of accessing a patient’s Shared Health Summary
View clinical documents that are available in a Shared Health Summary
Observe demonstrations in the Provider Portal and navigate the portal for a range of health providers
Phase 2 Training ( Mid 2018):

In the 2nd phase a road show will travel around the NT with the collaboration partners. Rural and remote regions such as Katherine and Nhulunbuy will have a Roadshow dedicated to their unique areas, which will be planned with their input to meet their training needs.

A consultation plan and proposed dates will be released in coming weeks.

We encourage all healthcare providers to attend and welcome you to share among your networks.
