Reel Black is the NYU LGBTQ Student Center's new film series highlighting movies centered on black queer and trans people. Join us for our first screening Friday, March 23rd, where we will be showing the classic: Paris Is Burning!

Paris is Burning, is the 1990 ground-breaking documentary that chronicles the New York's drag scene in the 1980s, focusing on balls, voguing and the queer and trans people of color that created this space and community. The importance of Paris is Burning, lies not only in the positive visibility of queer and trans people of color at a time when most media portrayals were focused around misrepresentation of HIV & AIDS, but also because of it's impact in bringing drag into the mainstream media.
