Join your neighbors and Silk Road Rising’s Founding Artistic Director Jamil Khoury, an award winning playwright, filmmaker, and essayist, in a viewing and discussion of the short animated film "The Four Hijabs," co-written by Dr. Manal Hamzeh and Khoury, on Tuesday, May 8, at the Main Library.

In the film, audiences are afforded an entertaining and accessible platform with which to engage complex ideas surrounding the hijab. Sixteen Koranic verses are identified as corresponding to four distinct, yet overlapping hijabs: (1) the visual hijab (the modest dress of both Muslim men and women); (2) the spatial hijab (the separator between private and public spaces); (3) the ethical hijab (the behavioral practices expected of all Muslims); and (4) the spiritual hijab (the barrier that inhibits inquiry and the acquisition of knowledge).
