Kizomba is a genre of dance with roots in Angola and the Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) African nations. Today, the dance is enjoyed in West Africa as well as in North and South America, the Caribbean, and parts of the world far removed from its origins. Learn more about the cultural roots of a dance phenomenon taking over the Western Hemisphere, and try out the moves for yourself when Kizomba comes to The Center at Moore Hall at Providence College. Led by Jean G. Paul of Ceijay Kizomba dance studio in Brockton, MA, students who participate in the class at PC will receive a brief lesson on the background of Kizomba - to ensure their understanding of its music and style as well as to appreciate its cultural roots - followed by a beginner-level class. The dance is equally enjoyed by both men and women, so all are encouraged to attend.
