The Old Gila County Jail and Sheriff's Office in Globe is allegedly haunted by the spirits of former inmates, one of which was murdered in building while awaiting trial. Many people that have visited the jail have witnessed strange things that can't be explained. Loud bangs and eerie footsteps are often heard when only one person is alone in the building. Eerie shadowy figures have also been witnessed throughout the building. Many EVPs have been recorded at the location. Most recently, a spirit of a little girl has been spotted in the alley way and in the courthouse adjacent to the jail.
The Gila County Jail was open from 1910 until 1981. A man named Kingsley Olds was killed in the jail while awaiting trial for allegedly killing two young girls, Lula and Myrtle Gosswick. Two inmates commited suicide in the jail, one cutting his wrists on the second floor, and the other jumped to his death off the bridge leading to the courthouse.
The Old Gila County Jail is located at 149 East Oak Street, in Globe, Arizona.
