MINDFULNESS, RHYTHM & SOUNDS WORKSHOP
The challenges of modern day life can make it very difficult to bring mindfulness into our lives, and to sustain this way of being. Our minds are constantly busy, and whilst the mind is amazing in so many ways, we do seem to be living constantly in our heads – planning, judging, ruminating, worrying, analysing, organising – so we can end up living more and more in the past, or more and more in the future. This can deplete us of energy and can only serve to perpetuate any feelings of stress and tension and dissatisfaction with our lives…….
Not really being present with ourselves and with what’s here means we cannot be truly aware and alive to each moment, we are unable to fully experience life in each moment, and we remain unaware how much of this beautiful world we are missing out on as we are rushing through it….
In our Mindfulness, Rhythm & Sounds workshops we aim to enhance awareness of present moment experience, bringing awareness to our own rhythms of breath and our breathing body in each moment.
Incorporating mindfulness concepts and guided meditations, we will be using the medium of the drum in the workshop to enhance our connection with the rhythm of the breath, and the rhythm of the body – bringing awareness to our experience in the present moment, allowing a sense of spaciousness and opportunity for re-balancing in everyday life.
Drums are included and simple drumming rhythms will be taught, perfect for beginners, where the focus is on our direct experience of playing the drum, rather than a focus on performance of how we are playing.
In our exploration of sounds we will be raising awareness of receiving sounds as they happen in each moment, encouraging us to really ‘be’ with sounds, moment after moment, and closing with a sounds meditation with accompanying percussion and beautifully atmospheric gong.
As with the breath, the workshop will explore how sounds may be another means of anchoring ourselves in the present moment and how we may bring more of these moments into our everyday lives.
