We offer a Tenebrae service on Good Friday. Tenebrae comes from the Latin meaning “darkness” or “shadows” to describe the process in the Good Friday service of gradually extinguishing candles, with each new reading of scripture, poetry, and song, to symbolize the crucifixion of Jesus and the loss of his light in the world. Worshipers leave in silence but in the hope of Easter celebration.
