This civic engagement event will give voice to opportunity youth, ages 16-24, regarding policy solutions for violence, youth justice, and restortative justice. During the program, there will be opening youth speakers and youth presenters who will engage in a community panel discussion with local official candidates. The candidates engaging in this panel will be running for office in the upcoming local elections on November 7, 2017. The goal is to allow the opportunity youth to share their personal stories and opinions on what is needed from family, community, and public officials for today’s youth to thrive.
*Local running elected official candidates will identify the issues that can be addressed right now and explain what they would do to create solutions to the problems in our communities.
*Formulating a plan of action to follow up with the winning elected officials
*Evaluating what youth learn from this discussion.
