Our workshop is designed for people looking for a full immersion of meditative experience fusing the science of kundalini yoga and meditation with sound healing. This workshop is led by Salma Amer and Cherine Samir, who together began fusing the techniques of kundalini yoga and meditation with sound healing to harness the powers of both ancient techniques.
“There are beautiful wild forces within us. Let them turn the mills inside and fill sacks that feed even Heaven.” Wild Forces, St. Francis of Assisi.
Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is a dynamic and effective technique to energize your body, clear your mind, release stress and elevate your spirit. Classes are built on repetitive rhythmic movements, various Pranayams (breathing techniques), chanting and meditations aiming to strengthen your nervous system, balance your glandular system, and harness the energy of your totality. We release all the weight off your mind, soul and physical body through the kriya (series of exercises) in order to experience the meditations powerfully through a trance of no mind and heightened intuition.
Sound has been utilized in various cultures for thousands of years as a tool for healing. Pure sound, such as the sound of singing bowls, gongs, and other percussive instruments, interact with the different energy frequencies that make up the human being to rebalance the body’s energy at the mental, emotional and physical levels. Sound is also used as an alternative treatment for conditions such as anxiety, chronic pain, sleep disorders and stress related conditions.
In our workshop, you will experience sound using different instruments throughout the kundalini practice to help reinforce the cleansing process of the subconscious mind. Using sound helps people to bridge from physical to meditative states, allowing the logical analytical part of the mind to completely disengage and a person to connect to their inner healer. Like kundalini yoga, sound healing works on purifying the subconscious while clearing thoughts and emotions cramming it. Trusting the process at hand in being present opens space for movement, change and elevation both internally and externally.
Salma finds healing in teaching, music, poetry, and movement. She is a passionately driven teacher deeply interested in the psychology of Kundalini Yoga & Meditation while consistently deepening her knowledge of yogic & sufi philosophy through various practices and teachings. Salma began her practice in 2013, and shortly after joined the Kundalini Research Institute in 2015 for the Level 1, 200 hour teacher training. She’s emphasized in her practice and classes the techniques of mindful play: yoga, breath work, dance and chanting through her own experience of harnessing these elements within herself internally and into her life externally. She is a singer, writer, Journalism Professor at the American University in Cairo, and a storyteller.
Sound has been a part of Cherine’s life for a couple of years now. Her studies as well as her practice have helped her grow stronger, more aware and more courageous. Cherine is a sound therapy practitioner who studied with the British Academy of Sound therapy in the UK. She completed the advanced gong master training with Don Conreaux in 2017. She has also completed her 200-hour Hatha Yoga training in 2015 and is a Stott Pilates trained instructor since 2012. Cherine will always be a student and is deeply grateful for the loving wisdom her teachers have shared with her.
