We demand a lot of our knees, the most complex and largest joint in the human body, and one that is constantly bearing the weight of the rest of the body. The wear and tear can catch up with us: knee pain is the second most common type of chronic pain and it can disrupt our enjoyment of even simple activities. This workshop will be led by LizziDee Levin, Certified Yoga Therapist, and is based in the therapeutic, alignment focused Iyengar Method.
It is for individuals needing to take pressure off their knees in order to promote healing and create more balance in their bodies. We will explore common postural habits that cause uneven wear to knee cartilage and how to correct those habits.
*review alignment principles for keeping the knee safe in commonly practiced yoga poses;
*identify common poses that can aggravate the knee joint;
*determine when it's better to practice a modification to make each pose safe;
*utilize yoga postures to safely stretch and strengthen the muscle groups that directly impact the knee, creating better muscular balance.
