In this two-day workshop, students will print layered compositions selecting from the large geometric printing blocks carved by exhibiting artist, Lindsay Schmittle, and used in her The Printed Walk series (opening April 5th). On day two, participants will crop their prints to use as notebook covers as they learn basic bookbinding techniques to bind three journals.
About Lindsay Schmittle:
As an undergraduate student in the Visual Communications program at the University of Delaware, Lindsay Schmittle fell in love with the art of letterpress printing. She was one of the few students interested in experimenting with analog methods. She discovered the Art Department's hidden gem, Raven Press, a handset letterpress studio, nearly deserted by the masses of digitally driven students. Lindsay began dedicating her spare time to learning how to set type and print with the antique equipment. Upon her graduation, Lindsay started Gingerly Press in Landenberg, PA. She now teaches the letterpress class & sponsors the letterpress club at the University of Delaware, inspiring students in Raven Press, where she first fell in love with the craft.
Lindsay's Gingerly Press prints have been featured in the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum's annual juried letterpress show as well as in multiple publications, including two separate features in internationally renowned Uppercase Magazine.
This workshop is limited to 8 students.
