“Everyone has stories within,” Damon said. “This hands-on workshop will offer tips on overcoming writer’s block and discovering and developing many narratives just waiting to be told,” explained the South Dakota-based author and writing coach. “It's a very exciting process of discovery for attendees.”
Damon’s creative non-fiction has garnered numerous honors, including First Place for her chapbook “Look. Don’t Look." at the 2017 National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) Conference in Birmingham, Ala. This collection of her flash non-fiction earned the highest honor awarded in the “Books and Creative Writing – Short Stories” category of the nationwide contest.
More than 30 years ago, Damon began her long career in writing as a news reporter and photo journalist. She later developed and managed Global Communications for Gateway Computers and more recently served as Director of Marketing for Briar Cliff University before retiring in 2014. Today, she is a syndicated columnist and strategic communications consultant.
The author holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the School of Contemporary Media and Journalism and a master’s in English, both from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion.
Damon was born in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania. At the age of nine, she moved with her family to Upstate New York State, where she finished elementary school and graduated from high school.
After marrying her high school sweetheart, Brian Joel Damon, the couple moved to Iowa and later South Dakota. This is where the couple established roots more than 40 years ago, graduated from college, started and completed successful careers and raised three children and seven fur-children. They now are the proud grandparents of three grandsons and two granddaughters.
