Marcie Van Cleave and guest teachers lead a program for new and experienced dancers alike at the weekly Friday folk dance. Please join us!
Folk dances are the traditional social dances of ethnic groups from all over the world. Some of the dances that we do use simple village steps and rhythms; some are choreographed in the style of a particular culture. Tempos range from relaxed to lively.
In a typical evening, we do many line and circle dances, plus some couple and set dances, each to a different recorded or live folk tune. Every Friday, several dances are taught, and most other dances can be followed by watching the leading dancers.
You do NOT need to have previous dance experience or to attend with a partner. Lightweight casual clothes and soft-soled, low-heeled shoes are best for folk dancing.
