The Park Theater and Fort Salem Theater Present The Singing Anchors - Side By Side -
WNYT news anchor Benita Zahn started singing at Washington County’s Fort Salem Theater in the summer of 2007. In November, 2009, she brought along her Channel 13 colleague Jessica Layton and CBS6 anchor Jerry Gretzinger, inviting them to join her in Salem for an evening of song. The trio clicked, and, musical directed and accompanied by Fort Salem’s artistic director Jay Kerr, The Singing Anchors easily become the Capital Region’s most requested musical attraction. They performed together regularly until late 2016, when Layton moved to Manhattan to report for CBS.
Benita Zahn has been broadcasting in Albany for over thirty years, garnering Emmy nominations as her station’s health reporter and easily most recognizable news anchor. She holds a doctorate in Bioethics and, when not singing, acting, or anchoring, has produced and hosted HealthLink on WMHT.
Gretzinger came to Albany television from stints in Providence and Springfield (MA). At CBS6, he co-anchored for four years with Liz Bishop. This past September, he and Zahn debuted an instantly highly-rated 4/4:30 broadcast on Channel 13.
They create and debut their shows at Fort Salem Theater and perform on the road at venues throughout the Capital Region, including MacHaydn Theatre, Saratoga’s First Night, the Clifton Park Hilton Garden Inn, and Vapor at the Racino. They are repeat guests at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon and Guilderland Library performance series, and have headlined at benefits for Our Brother’s Keeper, St. Mary’s School-Hoosick Falls, and the Schenectady ARC.
In Side by Side, they sing solos and duets from the Boards of Broadway and the Great American Songbook.
