If you frequent social media sites like Pinterest and Instagram, chances are you’ve seen how beautiful calligraphy can be. If you’re inspired to learn calligraphy yourself, this 2-part workshop is for you. This class is geared towards total beginners and participants are free to sign up for Part 1 only or sign up for both Part 1 and 2.

Looking for a fun way to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend? This Beginning Pointed Pen Calligraphy class is perfect for mom’s wanting to treat themselves or mothers/daughter’s wanting to celebrate together by learning a new skill!

PART 1: 9:00 am – 12:00 p.m.

Local calligrapher Meg Bosse of M.B. Calligraphy will teach you the fundamentals of pointed pen calligraphy using an oblique pen holder, nib and ink. You will learn how to create the basic lines and strokes that make up the Copperplate alphabet, learn all of the lower case letters as tips on how to modernize your lettering to make your own style.

All participants will walk away with their own mini calligraphy set as well as the skills to continue your calligraphy practice. This class is perfect for anyone who has never picked up a pen holder and nib before, and wants to give it a try!

PART 2: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

In Continuing Calligraphy Meg from M.B. Calligraphy will build off of the fundamentals taught in her beginning class. We will go through the upper case alphabet, connecting letters into words, and design a quote to take home. You will also be able to try some colored and metallic inks from Meg’s collection!

You do not have to have taken Meg’s beginning class to attend this class, but it is recommended that you do have some experience with pointed pen calligraphy before attending.

Meg Bosse is a calligrapher and hand letterer located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She started her career in the event planning industry for her alma mater, The University of Michigan. Her love for creating unique and personal details for each event led her on the journey to learn pointed pen calligraphy. She specializes in modern calligraphy, but also offers a traditional Copperplate style and is training in the Spencerian style.

Most days you can find her in her home studio in Ann Arbor with her rescue pup, Stella, designing envelopes, signage and other paper goods for weddings taking place all over the country.
