“Corky” Laing is a rock drummer, best known as a longtime member of the hard rock and heavy metal forerunner band, Mountain. With Laing at the drum kit, they released three albums and the classic song “Mississippi Queen” and “Nantucket Sleighride.” Mountain is one of those rare bands in the past 30 years that can be credited with forging a style and sound that would forever change the face of rock music. Laing has collaborated with John Lennon, Bobby Keyes, Ten Years After, Meat Loaf, Frank Marino, and Mahogany Rush and has recorded as the group Cork, with Spin Doctors guitarist/vocalist Eric Schenkman and Noel Redding, best known as bassist for The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Kofi Baker is the son of Cream’s Ginger Baker. At the gentle age of 6, Kofi first played live with his father on a famous English TV show and during the 80s they performed drumming duets throughout Europe. Kofi has toured and gigged with numerous named artists including Jack Bruce, Steve Marriot’s Humble Pie, Uli Jon Roth, John Etheridge (Soft Machine), Steve Waller (Manfred Mann) and Randy California (Spirit). Kofi continues to play extensively and has set up his own drum school, which spawns many loyal fans and students. In this Drum Master Class with Corky Laing & Kofi Baker, we will discuss the history of the drum and its driving force in rock and roll. Corky and Kofi will cover a variety of topics and offer critique and encouragement to the attending students.
