WORKSHOPS—No registration required
Monarchs and Milkweed Workshop, 9:00am
Butte County Master Gardener Kim Schwind
Learn about the lifecycle and migration habits of Monarch butterflies, as well as what you can do to help their dwindling numbers. You will learn how to encourage Monarchs to visit your garden by growing the right milkweed and nectar plants for our climate. According to University of Minnesota Monarch expert Karen Oberhauser, less milkweed directly correlates to fewer butterflies. Each new plant makes a difference, as Monarchs can find a milkweed plant growing in a crack in a sidewalk. Following the workshop, milkweed plants will be available for sale.
How to Plant Native Plants Workshop, 9:30am
Butte County Master Gardener Cindy Weiner
Native plants have different requirements than traditional non-native plants. Learn about the different planting and care requirements for native plants, and succeed with your native plant purchases.
