Who is baby yoga suitable for?
Baby yoga is suitable for main caregivers (mums, dads, grandparents, aunties, etc) and babies from six weeks to around one year old. Mum and baby must have had their 6-8 week check before commencing the course. Once babies are over 12 months (or very confident walkers), we recommend our toddler yoga class instead (coming soon).
As baby yoga incorporates parental exercise which can be quite heavy on the core, we recommend mums who've had a c-section wait until baby is 10-12 weeks old.
Babies from 6-12 weeks old are welcome at the class but are unable to perform the full variety of movements so alternatives movements will be offered.
Please let us know upon booking if you or baby have any health issues that may affect your ability to do yoga.
About baby yoga
Baby yoga encourages relaxation and bonding for mum and baby and helps parents read baby’s cues. Mum and baby become more aware of their own bodies.
It helps both mum and baby to overcome common problems post-birth. For example, parents learn ways to support babies with issues such as colic and constipation, while mums learn appropriate postnatal exercises. It can help overcome tiredness and may help with postnatal depression.
Parents may feel increases in confidence and self-esteem, as well as helping with weak pelvic floor muscles and back pain, through gentle stretching.
Babies benefit from the chance to feel safe in a busy world after 9 months of feeling safe in the womb.
