This spring Pewabic hosts two events featuring Alex Thullen, glaze development specialist.
At an artist lecture, 7 PM, April 19, Thullen will talk about the practices that led to his current body of studio work. He’ll also share his experiences at Pewabic and his efforts exploring locally sourced urban architectural environmental material to use as an element in glazes.
Thullen received his BFA from Wayne State University in 2005. He exhibits his studio work – Alex Thullen Ceramics – throughout North America, and his honors and awards include being named Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artist in 2015, the KC Clay Guild Purchase Award, Kansas City Clay Guild Teabowl National, Kansas City, Mo., and best in show at Pewabic’s Maker/Mentor exhibition in 2017.
The lecture will take place in our Workshop Studio.
Pewabic will also host Thullen and his studio work at the year’s first Kiln Pad Pop-Up, 1-4 PM, Sun. May 6. Kiln Pad Pop-Ups are one-day solo exhibitions held on our courtyard kiln pad, rain or shine. Artwork is available for purchase on a cash-and-carry basis.
