Brenna Geffers, Colleen Hughes and Rachel Gluck team up to show us a lesser seen side of this iconic character whose humanity and complexity have often been reduced and diminished by an all male clergy.
Set in a cave turned temple, Mary Magdalene speaks to devotees about her experience as an apostle through the lens of being the only woman in the group. The play pulls material from the Gnostic gospels, the gospel of Mary Magdalene and the gospel of Judas Iscariot. Magdalene explores themes of the Individual vs the Institution, Spirituality vs Dogma and re-examines popular stories from the Bible with details that are excluded from popular cannon.
