Bodegas Beronia is the legendary Winery hailing from Rioja Alta, Spain.
Beronia is the result of a group of friends, who were all members of a gastronomic society, deciding to make their own wines to
drink at their get-togethers. The name is a tribute to the first inhabitants of the region that we know nowadays as Rioja: a Celtic tribe called “the Berones”.
The Beronia style
Matías Calleja, Beronia’s winemaker, has imbued the wines with his own style, creating a ‘Beronia style’, the outstanding feature
of which is the balance between fruit and wood.
Beronia owns 20 hectares of vineyards and cultivates 870 further hectares that include prephylloxera free vines, 80-year-old vineyards and new vineyards planted in 2011. These vineyards are managed under long-term contracts so that we can retain control of the grapes at source as well as right through the winemaking process. 85% of the vineyards are Tempranillo grapes, complemented by Garnacha, Graciano, Mazuelo
We promote sustainable viticulture together with efficient water and energy management. Beronia controls 40 hectares of organic vineyards.
