Please join us on April 12, 2018 at the lovely home of generous supporters of the Pima Library Foundation and meet author, activist, NPR commentator and mentor to budding writers, Mary Sojourner.

Enjoy a Spanish-inspired menu of authentic tapas, sangria and sweets while participating in a lively and thought-provoking conversation with Mary. (You might be interested in asking her how she came about to being arrested not once, but twice!) Her writing and her activism have emerged from the Southwestern deserts, cities and rural towns she came to in the mid-1980’s. Mary is a resident of Flagstaff, AZ.

Mary’s recent publication is a collection of short stories, The Talker: Stories. It is a featured book in the Pima County Public Library’s publication, The Southwest Books of the Year, 2017. A review appearing in Publisher’s Weekly describes the collection.

"If you ever wondered what life is like for the down and out, the remarkable Sojourner lays it out in precise and unsparing prose in her latest collection of short stories. Throughout, Sojourner's ability to bring extraordinary characters to life and bring depth and heart to ordinary circumstances makes this collection memorable.”

A prolific writer, her numerous publications are too numerous to list, but include: 29, Sisters of the Dream, Bonelight: Ruin and Grace in the Southwest and She Bets Her Life: A True Story of Gambling Addiction.

On her writing, Mary says, “loss and change are the fuel for my writing. Gratitude moves my pen.”

Mary’s books will be available for purchase from Clues Unlimited, a local independent bookseller.
